The mystery penny item for 7/12-7/13/2009 is
Publix Salad Dressing 16 oz bottle
Getting this item for a penny requires a $10 purchase and the penny item coupon which you’ll find printed in your local Sunday newspaper*. Many stores will give you the discount without the coupon if you ask for it. You can get as many items for a penny as you have coupons as long as you split your order into $10 increments.
* The Penny Item promotion is not available in Florida.

I am a Publix employee and we are now tracking the penny coupons. This means we are requiring it for redemption purposes. Also the idea of as many “penny” items as you want, does not apply. One penny item per person. Not one per $10 order. Also, the order must sum $10 BEFORE tax, not after.

It is not unusual for my store to deplete our “penny” item supply. So if the penny item is different than you see here, most likely you are a little late.
