As with anything that involves the internet and a lot of information, you will find many abbreviations and shorthand notations that can be confusing when you are just getting started.  The following is a list of the most common couponing terminology and abbreviations.

Common Terminology

Blinkies – The little red machines in front of some products that blink and spit out a coupon

Hangtags – Coupons found hanging from items in the store. A common place to find hangtags is on the wine aisle. Wine hangtags usually provide a discount on other items beside the wine they are hung from and occasionally do not even require a wine purchase.

Overage – When a coupon exceeds the amount of the item and applies to your bill.

Peelies – Coupons that are stuck to a particular product that can be peeled off.

Tearpads – Pads of coupons found in store (usually around promotional displays) that customers can tear off themselves.

Common Abbreviations

$2/3 – Two dollars off 3 items

75¢/1 – 75 cents off one item

B1G1 or BOGO – Buy One Get One Free

IE- Internet Explorer

FF-Firefox Browser

MIR – Mail in Rebate

PG – Procter & Gamble Brandsaver – A monthly coupon insert from the Sunday Paper usually followed by the date it appeared

RP – Red Plum- A weekly coupon insert from the Sunday Paper usually followed by the date it appeared

SS – Smart Source – A weekly coupon insert from the Sunday Paper usually followed by the date it appeared
